Rams rule DT Ryan, CB Dockery out for Week Two

The Rams downgraded DT Clifton Ryan(notes) from questionable to out for their Week Two matchup with the Raiders. Ryan, who was hospitalized with migraines Wednesday night, stretched with the team Friday but did not participate in drills. He did not make the trip to Oakland.

Backup CB Kevin Dockery(notes) was downgraded from doubtful to out and the Rams signed rookie CB Marquis Johnson(notes) from the practice squad to the active roster. They waived rookie QB Thaddeus Lewis(notes).
The way we see it
Ryan, a starter up front, made a big play in Week One when he recovered a fumble and almost scored, only to be caught from behind by Cardinals WR Steve Breaston(notes) and fumbling it back to Arizona. The team is pleased with DT Fred Robbins(notes), an 11-year veteran. Dockery is not a big loss as he is not a prominent corner in the Rams' rotation, but they have had injury struggles at the position, so the rookie, Johnson, might get some playing time against the Raiders.

According to Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Senitnel, the Packers are paying Giacomini $7,500 per week to be on the practice squad. That’s $2,300 more than the minimum, which the vast majority of practice squad players receive.
In fact, it’s quite rare to find a practice squad player earning more than the minimum, which equates to $88,400 for an entire season. Team don’t want to have to spend unnecessarily, and when one practice squad player finds out that another is banking more each week, well, that can be a tricky issues for teams and agents.
In this instance, Giacomini will earn an extra $39,100 over the course of 17 weeks. Now, practice squad players are often rolled in and out. Some teams will keep four or five core practice squad players and then use the remaining spots to rotate players in every few weeks so they get a look at more prospects.
