Ted Daisher Art Shell

The 2006 coaching staff for the has at last been completed. Head coach Art Shell rounded his brain trust off with 50-year old Ted Daisher, who will become the coach over Oakland's special teams unit for the 2006 season.Daisher will take over for Joe Avezzano, who was let go of after two years with the organization. With the exception of punter Shane Lechler, the unit saw little production under Avezzano. Sebastian Janikowski didn't help his coach's case, missing 10 of his 30 field goal attempts in 2005. The big play threat was also lacking from Oakland's special teams unit under Avezzano, as they went without a touchdown in both kick and punt returns under his command. On top, the chronic setbacks caused by penalties were also detrimental to his case. And although Oakland's special teams unit was far from awful under Avezzano, they were consistently average to below average-at best.In hopes of improving the less-than-stellar unit, Shell and Davis decided on providing Ted Daisher with a one-way ticket from Philadelphia to Oakland. Daisher spent his last two seasons with the Eagles under the job title "special team's quality control coach." Before joining Philadelphia, Daisher spent 22 seasons as an assistant at the university level. For 2002 and 2001, he coached the outside linebackers and defensive backs at East Carolina. Before that, he spent three years at Indiana heading the defensive line.
